Glass Care 101: Keeping Your Pieces Clean and Lasting Longer

Nothing ruins good glass faster than neglect. Resin build-up chokes airflow, dulls flavor, and makes even a great piece feel harsh. The fix isn't complicated — it's just consistent.

Change your water every session. That single habit does more than any deep clean. Then once a week, run isopropyl alcohol and coarse salt through the piece, plug the openings, shake, and rinse with warm water. Never shock hot glass with cold water; thermal stress is how pieces crack.

Small parts matter too. Soak bowls, downstems, and banger nails separately, keep a jar of cleaner and a pack of pipe cleaners on hand, and use a silicone mat so nothing rolls off the table. If a joint feels tight, don't force it — that's how you break a downstem.
